Battle of the online photo printers

Great digital photos deserve to see the light of day, not just to be hidden away in the dark recesses of your hard drive. So why is it that digital photo printing services are still very much overlooked?

Coupled with a decent broadband speed, the products and services offered by some of the best online printing companies are quick, inexpensive and pretty dazzling.

Pretty much any of the latest Canon, Epson or HP inkjet printers are capable of producing borderless photo prints at sizes of up to A4, with excellent quality. Once you’ve bought the printer itself, usually for less than £100, typical photo printing costs are about 30p for a standard 6 x 4in print, and around £1 for a full A4 photo.

Complete works of Shakespeare heading online

The Bodleian Library in the UK and Folger Shakespeare Library in the US are joining forces to scan and reproduce the original quartos for all William Shakespeare’s plays.

In the absence of any surviving original manuscripts, the earliest known printed editions works of Shakespeare - the so-called quartos - are generally regarded by academics as the most reliable source for understanding Shakespeare’s original intentions and thoughts.

Data safety concerns for online pupil records

Reuters reports that UK school pupils aged 14 to 19 are to have their personal details and exam results stored permanently online as of this coming September. The move is part of a new system which will keep a record of qualifications and information including pupils’ name, address and date of birth.

Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education Bill Rammell said: “It will allow each learner to build up a record of the skills they have gained and the learning they have achieved.”
