Microsoft bringing Office apps to the iPhone?

Even though Apple and Microsoft are enemies on the PC side where they compete in the OS market, it hasn’t stopped the two companies from collaborating on a number of projects, including Office, for example. And according to one report from Fortune, it may happen again.

Fortune is reporting that Microsoft has spent a significant amount of time with the iPhone SDK and has determined that it may be a suitable framework within which to develop Office and other Microsoft products. And considering the fact that Microsoft is the Mac’s largest developer outside of Apple itself, the idea doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch.

iPhone morphs into PC mouse trackpad

Cool application of the day: a piece of third-party software that lets you transform your Apple iPhone or Apple iPod touch into a wireless touchpad for your computer.

Touchpad enables you to create a wireless touchpad on your iPhone, letting you control the mouse on your computer using just the handset. You can move the mouse around, click, double-click, and even drag items by double-clicking on a file but keeping the touchpad pressed down. You can scroll vertically by click-and-dragging on the right edge of the Apple iPhone screen.

Latest: could the iPhone become the iWii?

As momentum gathers behind long-standing rumours that Apple is working on a games console, speculation is now turning to what shape this might take. Is Apple about to reinvent the handheld wheel, or are we just looking at some more sophisticated games for the iPhone?

One theory says that because the iPhone sports a more sophisticated touchscreen than Nintendo’s DS handheld - one that is able to register simultaneous multiple impressions - and has a built-in three-way accelerometer, the platform for an Apple games system is already out there in people’s pockets.

iPhone owners smug, Palm Treo buyers less so

A US mobile phone survey has confirmed what some of us already know - that buying and owning an iPhone is a great thing to do. Palm handset owners may need to find crumbs of comfort elsewhere.

That’s because the ChangeWave survey shows that 72 per cent of iPhone owners are ‘very satisfied’ with their Apple-made touch phone, beating owners of rival mobiles from makers like RIM, LG, Sanyo, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola. Palm came bottom of the pile with just 30 per cent of owners saying they were ‘very satisfied’, according to Wired.

Travel Accessories for the iPod and iPhone

An Apple iPod or iPhone is an essential travel accessory in its own right. Not only can you listen to music and watch videos, but you can also store your business contacts on either device or use your iPod to back up files.

But as feature-packed as Apple’s devices are, you’ll probably still want to accessorize them. Here’s a look at some cool add-ons for the airplane, car, hotel room–or anywhere you travel.

The Inflight Power Recharger ($35 to $50), about the size of a small tape measure, converts the audio output from an airplane’s passenger seat headphone jack into power that can recharge your iPod, iPhone, RIM BlackBerry, and any other handheld devices that support USB connections.
