Toshiba unveils new Satellite Pro laptops

Toshiba has announced five new models in its Satellite Pro laptop range today, targeting small business users with the line-up that starts from a reasonable price point of $699 (£350).

Tosh’s new affordable line of lappies range from a 13-inch screen model to a weightier desktop-friendly 17-inch screen.

All five models feature, as standard, 802.11g wireless, integrated webcams, DVD multi-format burners and an ExpressCard slot, with certain models in the range offering both Windows Vista and XP Professional.

Microsoft’s profits fall

There won’t be many happy faces at Redmond at the moment after Microsoft’s quarterly financial results showed an 11% drop in profit amid flat sales.

Although CEO Steve Ballmer has insisted that a well publicised takeover bid for Yahoo will not see a raised offer, the traditional stronghold of Microsoft’s success, namely software, have not performed up to expectations in the early part of 2008.

Ebullient

Inevitably, Microsoft (MSFT, NASDAQ) remained publicly ebullient in the face of the disappointing performance, insisting that the release of Server 2008 and the increased sales of both Xbox 360 consoles and their portable music player Zune shows that its business is broadening.

Will Apple crush Psystar?

After all the hoo-hah, it appears that Psystar’s PCs running OSX actually DO exist and are now turning up at people’s houses – which begs the question will Apple finally crush them?

Apple has remained tight-lipped over the entire debacle, which has fuelled thousands of comments over Psystar’s wandering address, mysterious history and problems with payments.

However, the likes of the US Engadget site have got their hands on the Psystar PC and, aside from some slightly noisy fan related issues, it appears that the OSX PC is fit for purpose.
